martonius1978 I'm not sure about a favorite track yet, but you guys certainly found MANY gems among the many hours(days?) worth of material you must have gone through to find all the tracks for this release!

Cosmographer SF has pretty much redefined "world music" for my generation. In a phonographic market obsessed with novelty, "world music" largely meant "ethnic" flavors added to ready-to-consume aesthetics for yuppies, marketers and bored elites.

SF's approach was earth-shattering. It was all about presenting the original vision of various musics from around the world, especially S and SE Asia. You get their production values, instrumentation choices, recording techniques. This comp is essential listening. Favorite track: Essiniya.

about

Thoughtfully curated by international music ensemble High Castle Teleorkestra (HCT), this SUBLIME FREQUENCIES authorized 2+ hour, 45 track, double-length compilation is a great point of entry to the daunting 120+ releases in the legendary SUBLIME FREQUENCIES record catalog. Focused largely on instrumental numbers from the golden era of recorded music (1960s-1970s), this treasury of discovered recordings transports the listener to lesser explored pockets of Indonesia, Africa, the Middle East, South America and more. The melding of native folk songs and instruments with more modern surf, pop, rock and exotica elements is a trend that permeates much of this collection. These haunting relics of music history remind us just how far we have fallen in the recording arts, while simultaneously inspiring wonder in the listener, who now hears a new world. High Castle Teleorkestra has prepared a wonderful and accessible introduction to the miraculous world of music exposed by Sublime Frequencies, who fully approve of and endorse this compilation.

SUBLIME FREQUENCIES is a collective of explorers dedicated to acquiring and exposing obscure sights and sounds from modern and traditional urban and rural frontiers via film and video, field recordings, radio and short wave transmissions, international folk and pop music, sound anomalies, and other forms of human and natural expression not documented sufficiently through all channels of academic research, the modern recording industry, media, or corporate foundations. SUBLIME FREQUENCIES is focused on an aesthetic of extra-geography and soulful experience inspired by music and culture, world travel, research, and the pioneering recording labels of the past.
